SEO Best Practices: Friendship with Directories

Why directories are important

Directories should play an important role too well in your SEO efforts, at least the largest and most important for the following reasons:

- Offer enrollment in the major directories “context” for search engines. For example, if your site is listed in the Open Directory Project under the category Pets -> Weird Pets -> Blue Cats, search engines assume your website has something to do with blue cats. Your site and the pages will be indexed faster and might be a better ranking in search results for specific terms (in that case, “Blue Cats”).

- Major directories (such as Yahoo Directory ODP, Jayde, etc.) page ranks and as long as a list of non-reciprocity in turn paid or unpaid, your page rank is to get great benefits.

- Major Indices are often used by other web sites (think replicated to the ODP, with hundreds of copies) means that the list will make somewhere in that list all the important announcements in replica sites to strengthen a contribution to your efforts and link popularity page ranks.

- The ODP (Open Directory Project) feeds results from Google, AOL, AltaVista, Lycos, Netscape - once again, a presence in the ODP, you get far enough.

Submit to directories

Like most good things in life, you have to get to the efforts to quality directories. Although detailed instructions on how to submit your sites always provided through the directories, there are some things to consider before you start hunting for directories and submit your websites:

- Start with Yahoo! Directory and Open Directory Project: registration value in both of them more than in all other directories mentioned together! You will soon find out enough that, unfortunately, the presence will be maintained in both the hardest thing to do: Yahoo requires a $ 299 annual fee for regular web sites (non-commercial sites that offer free registration) and $ 600 for adults sites during ODP free, but you need luck, you make your way into it. ODP is so important last strictly human, which means that the waiting time to a list can still mean to get extended years! Do your duty as a worker SEO and submit your site, but not too much to expect, unfortunately.

- Religiously follow the submission guidelines provided by directories: read them as often as you ensure that you do not upset its editors, as you need your website in the wrong direction, inaccuracies, wrong description style, or the wrong category.

- Try to find niche directories if the content of your site is suitable. For example, if your site deals with topics of marketing, focus your efforts, a directory of marketing communications is only (as MarketingWHO.com) and submit your site there: search engines love links from relevant websites to sell!

- You will probably come in many directories with paid inclusions: Use your common sense to judge whether it is worth it or not. A good test is to check their Google Page Rank: if it at least three levels higher than page rank of your website, it is probably worth the money for tuition. But not search directories with an apartment that costs for a time as recurring monthly or annual fees, you get to spend less money!

Finally, remember a simple rule: if it is too easy to get into a directory, it’s probably not worth entering in the first case.
