Is Directory Submission Obsolete?

August 6, 2010 – 10:59 am

“The lists are sooooo 2003.” “Remember bluefinder?” I thought Google hated directories. ”

Many people think directories have become obsolete. The truth is that while their SEO importance has decreased in recent years, they should always be a part of link building new locations.

Of course you should not submit to directories only for PageRank. Search engines analyze user data and integrate this information into their algorithm, the traffic you receive on a link will be crucial again. (If it were not so all together? I digress …) In fact, if you can get relevant traffic from a directory listing, it is still a viable marketing channel. And he can still be an effective method of referencing, and (we shall return).

So the question should not be, “Am I to directories?”, But “directories should I submit? The answer is that before the directories, either:

a) transmit or transport
b) have a list, the editorial voice as by the major search engines.

Did you specifically mentioned both the Yahoo Directory and Open Directory (DMOZ), in their webmaster guidelines (see http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html)? This means that Google links between these two directories are in fact the view votes editorial quality. These links need to “trust” are the type of a website both from the sandbox, and ranked in the current (hard to crack) Google.

Of course I can recommend you more than the two above-mentioned list of kings (Yahoo! And DMOZ) submitted. It is a question of sorting by the low quality “raw” down below to find the directory “diamonds”. For starters, the best of the web, MSN bCentral, and Business.com have all Gimpsy editorial integrity at a level expected to ensure that search engines “trust” of their relationship. Apart from these, there are few others on the top level, but beware that all links for sale on the entire site, but all these guarantees practice that Google will not rely on editorial integrity of the directory.

What about the rest? Presentation with lower quality directories you can propel your website to the top of Google, but my recent research suggests that there is still a very effective link building to be built in both MSN and Yahoo rankings. I’ve never been one put all my eggs in the basket of Google, so I regularly use these lists to continue to the second level quickly (and cheap!) First My Sites page of these engines.

As a result, the presentation of the list always have a place in your strategy connects the buildings. If you go to Google’s ranking alone, you might want only the directories of the leading cast lists as editorial quality of Google as a stick. If you go for the ranking in MSN and Yahoo, you can get a lot cheaper effective connections by your site to numerous directories of inferior quality. And of course if you try in the top three search engines rank, you should probably both of the above. Anyway, remove directories not just yet!
